The mXt1386 and mXT616 chipsets offer best-in-class unlimited multi-touch capability, lowest available power consumption, quickest response time, and the highest signal-to-noise ratio – providing the ability to detect even the most sensitive touches. These new chipsets can also sense and reject unintended touches, for example, recognizing that your entire palm on the screen is likely a grip and not a touch action.Image may be NSFW.

Binay Bajaj, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Touch Products for Atmel Corporation commented with today’s news saying, “Atmel maXTouch mXT1386 and mXT616 chipsets will power an avalanche of tablets — and other touch products — coming to the market in 2011 and beyond. We are excited to enable the general market to develop products with touchscreens up to 15 inches.”

With that said, it seems our largest 10.1″ tablet screens will soon become the best mid-sized options available.
